I’ve always passed this view over the years and really wanted to paint it, it’s wonderful to see how the colours and light create such harmonious values and change throughout the seasons and time of day. This is my most recent painting, which was sketched from life in April 2021, then taken back home to paint. I started with a watercolour wash to begin the highlights, then went into it with gouache and ink, to create more texture and patterns. I’m so pleased with the effect from the watercolour, it really sums up the dappled lighting which was exactly like the day I sketched it!
